Mortgage Calculator Free House Payment Estimate

A down payment of 20% or more will get you the best interest rates and the most loan options. There are a variety of low-down-payment options available for home buyers. You may be able to buy a home with as little as 3% down, although there are some loan programs (such as VA loans and USDA loans) that require no money down.

How to use the mortgage calculator

In the U.S., the most common mortgage loan is the conventional 30-year fixed-interest loan, which represents 70% to 90% of all mortgages. Mortgages are how most people are able to own homes in the U.S. The mortgage payment estimate you’ll get from this calculator includes principal and interest.

VA loan (government loan)

Feel free to try out different down payment amounts, loan terms, interest rates and so on to see your options. Bankrate's calculator also estimates property taxes, homeowners insurance and homeowners association fees. You can edit these amounts, or even edit them to zero, as you're shopping for a loan.

Calculating your mortgage payment

Private Mortgage Insurance (PMI) is calculated based on your credit score and amount of down payment. If your loan amount is greater than 80% of the home purchase price, lenders require insurance on their investment. This is a monthly cost that increases your mortgage payment.

Mortgage Interest Rate

The “taxes” portion of your mortgage payment refers to your property taxes. The amount you pay in property taxes is based on a percentage of your property value, which can change from year to year. The actual amount you pay depends on several factors including the assessed value of your home and local tax rates.

Borrowers mainly adopt these strategies to save on interest. Conforming loans have maximum loan amounts that are set by the government and conform to other rules set by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, the companies that provide backing for conforming loans. A non-conforming loan is less standardized with eligibility and pricing varying widely by lender. Non-conforming loans are not limited to the size limit of conforming loans, like a jumbo loan, or the guidelines like government-backed loans, although lenders will have their own criteria.

Current Mortgage Rates by State

That monthly payment is likely to be the biggest part of your cost of living. Loan start date - Select the month, day and year when your mortgage payments will start. If Joe were to abide by the 28/36 rule, he’d spend no more than $1,400 on a mortgage payment each month. The United States Department of Agriculture backs USDA loans that benefit low-income borrowers purchasing in eligible, rural areas. While an upfront funding fee is required on these loans, your down payment can be as little as zero down without paying PMI.

Shorter terms help pay off loans quickly, saving on interest. It is possible to pay down your loan faster than the set term by making additional monthly payments toward your principal loan balance. NerdWallet’s mortgage payment calculator makes it easy to compare common loan types to see how each type of loan affects your monthly payment.

Can my monthly payment go up?

This calculator doesn’t include mortgage insurance or guarantee fees. Those could be part of your monthly mortgage payment depending on your financial situation and the type of loan you choose. As a home buyer, you’ll want to have a certain level of comfort in understanding your monthly mortgage payments.

Conventional loans are backed by private lenders, like a bank, rather than the federal government and often have strict requirements around credit score and debt-to-income ratios. If you have excellent credit with a 20% down payment, a conventional loan may be a great option, as it usually offers lower interest rates without private mortgage insurance (PMI). You can still obtain a conventional loan with less than a 20% down payment, but PMI will be required. Our mortgage calculator can help you estimate your monthly mortgage payment. This calculator estimates how much you’ll pay for principal and interest. You can also opt to includes your taxes and insurance in this payment estimate.

The FHA also offered further help amid the nationwide drop in real estate prices. It stepped in, claiming a higher percentage of mortgages amid backing by the Federal Reserve. Today, both entities continue to actively insure millions of single-family homes and other residential properties.

If you want the payment estimate to include taxes and insurance, you can input that information yourself or we’ll estimate the costs based on the state the home is located in. On the other hand, a homeowner who is refinancing may opt for a loan with a shorter repayment period, like 15 years. This is another common mortgage term that allows the borrower to save money by paying less total interest. However, monthly payments are higher on 15-year mortgages than 30-year ones, so it can be more of a stretch for the household budget, especially for first-time homebuyers. For example, you may have homeowners association dues built into your monthly payment. It helps to gather all of these additional expenses that are included in your monthly payment, because they can really add up. If you don’t consider them all, you may budget for one payment, only to find out that it’s much larger than you expected.

Therefore, this compensation may impact how, where and in what order products appear within listing categories, except where prohibited by law for our mortgage, home equity and other home lending products. While we strive to provide a wide range of offers, Bankrate does not include information about every financial or credit product or service. The major part of your mortgage payment is the principal and the interest.

However, if you are considering a smaller down payment, down to a minimum of 3.5%, you might apply for an FHA loan. We believe everyone should be able to make financial decisions with confidence. Most people use a mortgage calculator to estimate the payment on a new mortgage, but it can be used for other purposes, too.

Conventional loans can come with down payments as low as 3%, although qualifying is a bit tougher than with FHA loans. Our partners cannot pay us to guarantee favorable reviews of their products or services. Loan amount - If you're getting a mortgage to buy a new home, you can find this number by subtracting your down payment from the home's price. If you're refinancing, this number will be the outstanding balance on your mortgage. In the early 20th century, buying a home involved saving up a large down payment. Borrowers would have to put 50% down, take out a three or five-year loan, then face a balloon payment at the end of the term.

Many home buyers pay for this as part of their monthly mortgage payment. A shorter term will allow you to pay off the loan quicker, pay less interest and build equity faster, but you’ll have a higher monthly payment. A longer term will have a lower monthly payment because you’ll pay off the loan over a longer period of time. You may enter your own figures for property taxes, homeowners insurance and homeowners association fees, if you don’t wish to use NerdWallet’s estimates.

Conforming loans vs non-conforming loans

Paying a lower interest rate in those initial years could save hundreds of dollars each month that could fund other investments. Your interest rate and monthly payment will increase after the introductory period, which can be three, five, seven or even 10 years, and can climb substantially depending on the terms of your loan. In general, for a 30-year fixed loan, you will have the lowest monthly payment but the highest interest rate. However, with a 15-year fixed, you’ll have a higher payment, but will pay less interest and build equity and pay off the loan faster. Key factors in calculating affordability are 1) your monthly income; 2) cash reserves to cover your down payment and closing costs; 3) your monthly expenses; 4) your credit profile. In essence, the lender helps the buyer pay the seller of a house, and the buyer agrees to repay the money borrowed over a period of time, usually 15 or 30 years in the U.S. A portion of the monthly payment is called the principal, which is the original amount borrowed. The other portion is the interest, which is the cost paid to the lender for using the money. There may be an escrow account involved to cover the cost of property taxes and insurance. The buyer cannot be considered the full owner of the mortgaged property until the last monthly payment is made.

Over the length of the loan, though, the 15-year loan is a far better deal, considering the interest you pay — $514,715 in total. With the 30-year, you pay $646,624 total — over $100,000 more. Our loan is half the length, and so the value for n is 180. Each month we’ll pay $2,859.53, over 60% more than with the 30-year loan. When all’s said and done, for a 30-year loan at 3.5% interest, we’ll pay $1,796.18 each month. Under "Home price," enter the price (if you're buying) or the current value (if you're refinancing).

There are also optional inputs within the calculator for annual percentage increases under "More Options." Using these can result in more accurate calculations. An FHA loan is government-backed, insured by the Federal Housing Administration. FHA loans have looser requirements around credit scores and allow for low down payments. An FHA loan will come with mandatory mortgage insurance for the life of the loan. A homeowners insurance premium is the cost you pay to carry homeowners insurance – a policy that protects your home, personal belongings and finances. The homeowners insurance premium is the yearly amount you pay for the insurance.

This formula can help you crunch the numbers to see how much house you can afford. Alternatively, you can use this mortgage calculator to help determine your budget. These are also the basic components of a mortgage calculator. Mortgage interest is the cost you pay your lender each year to borrow their money, expressed as a percentage rate. The calculator auto-populates the current average interest rate.

In addition to mortgages options (loan types), consider some of these program differences and mortgage terminology. When a loan exceeds a certain amount (the conforming loan limit), it's not insured by the Federal government. Loan limits change annually and are specific to the local market. Jumbo loans allow you to purchase more expensive properties but often require 20% down, which can cost more than $100,000 at closing. VA loans are partially backed by the Department of Veterans Affairs, allowing eligible veterans to purchase homes with zero down payment (in most cases) at competitive rates.

Men's Shirts Size Chart & Dress Shirt Sizes

shirt design size

Strategically placing patterns or prints can help create a visually slimming effect or draw attention to specific areas. For example, vertical stripes can elongate the body, while patterns placed at the waist can create a more defined silhouette. The sleeve length measurement determines the desired length of the sleeves.

Sleeve Designs – For short-sleeved shirts the design should be about 3″ square. The bottom of the design is placed about an inch above the hem. For a long sleeve, a vertical design can be about 2 inches wide and up to 11 inches tall. Don't make bright and bold colors the main selling point of your designs. From a brand logo, to care instructions, tips, and sizing — this little placement is a print location worth utilizing.

However, women’s shirts are designed specifically for the woman’s natural shape. The shoulders, sleeves and chest will typically fit differently in a woman’s shirt as compared to a man’s shirt. In recent years, on-demand printing services have revolutionized the apparel industry. Most service providers are making use of direct-to-garment (DTG) printing to provide their customers with designs and logos they like. However, it is incredibly important for designers to know the image size that they need to maintain when  preparing new designs, so they can be printed to scale on the T-shirt.

T-Shirt Design Size and Placement Tips Guide

Opt for fabrics that have stretch and provide ease of movement. Fabrics like cotton blends or jersey knits offer both comfort and breathability. Ensure that the fabric choice complements the design and enhances the overall fit and feel of the t-shirt.

Choose silhouettes that flatter plus-size bodies, such as A-line or empire waist designs. These styles help accentuate curves and create a balanced and flattering look. Avoid designs that cling too tightly or overly emphasize certain areas, and opt for designs that provide comfortable and stylish options for plus-size individuals. Right at eye level, this is a great location for a logo or graphic element. The top of the design should be placed around 1-2 inches from the bottom of the collar. From pockets on T-shirts to pant legs on sweatpants, view recommended design dimensions based on the area you're decorating.

shirt design size

Usually a design size of 3.5” x 3.5” will work, but measure the actual pocket to make sure you won’t be printing too close to the seams. You can always size the design a little smaller to be sure it will fit. If printing on adult size shirts, the standard size is 11” x 11” (or 11” wide by proportionate height).

How to Properly Measure a T-Shirt

For example, an image centered on a small-sized t-shirt may appear off-center or skewed on a larger size. By adapting the placement of images to suit different sizes, you can ensure a visually balanced design that retains its impact across all dimensions. Finding the right design size for shirts is crucial for printing high-quality, visually appealing images. If you want to add a print to the yoke area, a good design size is about 3” wide. Some brands keep it on the smaller side, about 2” or so for a logo, but anything between that 2 – 3” will look good.

Scott x Scott’s mission is to provide a full package production service from designing and development, to production and branding, at a competitive price with virtually no minimums. To reduce unnecessary waste, our custom t-shirts are made to order. Once your order has been received, we then begin the t-shirt printing process. Creating the perfect t-shirt design for your brand, message, or event doesn’t have to be difficult.

That’s because sizes can appear quite different when you wear them as compared to a 2D design file. If you have to choose between different print providers that use similar printing methods and garments, you still have to consider several factors. For instance, each print provider may have a different workflow, equipment, product quality, and several other factors. When it comes to determining the ideal image size for T-shirt printing, there are four key factors that need to be taken care of.

” Maybe the graphic is chilling in your armpit (awkward), or the logo is so big it’s practically a dress. That’s because T-shirt design isn’t just about slapping a pretty picture on fabric. It’s about understanding the shirt as a 3D space and how that design will sit on a moving, breathing human body. Upper Back – this placement is across the shoulder blades and is typically seen with security or staff work shirts. It’s also the print area for custom bridal denim jackets (get a tutorial here).

This design placement guide will help you create an effective design to maximize your potential for success. The T-shirt design size can make or break your product. Although getting the right design size can be tricky, there are some common sizes and measurements that work best for apparel. Keep in mind that for screen printing, the area is set for the front and back. The men’s sizing chart typically includes measurements for chest width, shoulder width, and sleeve length.

This t-shirt design placement gives you a unique opportunity to add similar credibility to your merchandise. Center-chest is an excellent placement for company logos or minimalist designs, ensuring visibility. Place the design approximately three inches below the collar – no matter the shirt size – to make sure your graphic art is sharp and easy on the eyes. One of the biggest challenges for new and seasoned merchants is figuring out the perfect t-shirt design size to guarantee top-quality results on their products.

Patterns and prints can add visual interest to t-shirt designs. However, it’s important to consider how these elements will translate across different sizes. Large, intricate patterns may be overpowering on smaller sizes, while smaller patterns may not have the desired impact on larger sizes. Adapt the scale and placement of patterns and prints to ensure they enhance the design on all t-shirt sizes.

The customization options range from patterns, color, stitching, to fabric. The development process includes custom lab dips, tech packs, and development sample approval. If you have any problems with your custom T-shirt and you are not 100% satisfied, you'll have 90 days to return your item. Just get in touch with our customer service team, who will be happy to help. Not every t-shirt needs to be completely filled to be a masterpiece.

One of the most frequently asked questions we get is how big to make a design for apparel printing. In this post, we’ll cover various design sizes, and how to determine the best size for what you are printing. If you're creating a centered graphic that will cover a large portion of the chest area, keep in mind that the total area for an adult shirt is about 11" x 13". Place the design 3” to 3.5” below the collar or neckline to ensure it falls exactly where it needs to be. Printbest™ is a print on demand company powered by SinaLite.

AD Classics: Frederick C Robie House Frank Lloyd Wright

robie house

The horizontality of the house is reinforced at every level of the design—from the iconic roofline to the very bricks and mortar of the building itself. Through his use of materials, Wright achieves a remarkable balance of tone and color, as iron-flecked brick harmonizes with the iridescent leaded glass of the windows that encircle the building. Broad balconies and terraces cause interior and exterior space to flow together, while urns and planters at every level were intended to bloom with the seasons. The second floor of the house is composed of the kitchen and the servants’ quarters. But undoubtedly the most interesting rooms are the living and dining rooms, separated by the fireplace, but visually connected.

Eight chocolate-brown interiors that look good enough to eat

Of that number, the state of Illinois contains more than any other state in the Union. And the majority of those buildings are located in either Chicago or Oak Park, with a number of others in the northern suburbs. With few exceptions, these Chicago area homes were designed and built in the early 1900s, a time when Wright was beginning to forge the “Prairie Style” and “organic” architecture, for which he gained much acclaim.

Our Etsy Artwork Collection

robie house

With its restless, interlocking horizontal volumes, continuous surfaces, banded windows, absence of traditional ornament, and hidden entryway, the house was a complete departure from traditional residential architecture. The treatment of the brickwork and mortar on the home is very subtle and extremely clever. On the vertical mortar joints, Wright used a colored mortar that matched the brick. This technique created what appears to be a continuous course of brick on the horizontals. By visually removing the vertical joints between each brick, Wright was able to accentuate the horizontal lines on the home without stopping the eye as you track across the building. Wright created a long and attenuated building with low-sloped roofs and dramatic cantilevers.

"Tiny homes are not the big solution to homelessness that we need"

It occupies almost the entire plot; what little free space left is incorporated in the overall composition with dedcorative walls and gardens. The horizontal feel of the edifice is reinforced by the window sills and stone thresholds, as well as by the thin mortart joints of the brick work. A new magnesite floor also was installed throughout the ground level, reproducing the house’s original flooring. In addition, a re-created leaded-glass front entry door to the house was installed; the original door was destroyed by student demonstrators during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in 1968.

Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House: Where Family Life Met Tragedy.

So Wright was the first to establish the difference between “defined spaces” and “closed spaces”. It was originally designed for the business man Frederick C Robie and his family, after which the house is named. Robie, however was forced to sell the house in 1911 due to financial issues. Working from his studio in Oak Park, he developed what is considered America's first unique architecture style, which is characterised by horizontal rooflines, overhanging eaves, continuous windows and natural materials.

One such bedroom photo (left) shows the vaulted ceiling and hulking fireplace in the home’s third floor master bedroom. Over the next 30+ years, the house was used by the University of Chicago as an office and a meeting space for the Adlai Stevenson Institute for International Affairs, and later by the University’s Office of Alumni Affairs. Some examples of his famous works include the Fallingwater House, the Johnson Wax Building, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. His Prairie School style of architecture is considered as one of his major contributions to the field of architecture, and his work has been widely studied and emulated by architects worldwide.

The central chimney mass, containing four fireplaces, and the main stairway rise through the center of the house and are constructed of the same brick and limestone as the exterior. The purpose for these windows was to allow light into the house while still giving a sense of privacy. In October of 1909, with construction underway at the Robie House, Wright left America for Europe to work on the publication of a substantial monograph of his buildings and projects. The result was the Wasmuth Portfolio of 1910, which introduced Wright’s work to Europe and influenced a generation of international architects. On his return from Europe in 1910 Wright would continue to explore the concept of organic architecture but would seek new influences beyond that of the Midwest prairie. Under the 1935 Historic Sites Act, the Robie House was named a National Historic Landmark in 1963, and, after passage of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, it was again so designated in 1971.

The main living areas, including a billiards room and the children's room, occupy the southwestern block. Because of the era in which the Robie Housewas built, only the exterior and ground floor are accessible to guests inwheelchairs. The trust does make one standard wheelchair available to guests(first-come, first-served). Some walkers with built-in seats are also availableon a first-come, first-served basis. Walkers are allowed to be brought in, butthey will be inspected to avoid damaging the floors. Guests can now take guided tours through the home to appreciate the one-of-a-kind architecture.

The Wilber family would reside in the home until 1926 when they sold it to the Chicago Theological Seminary (CTS), who inexplicably converted it into a dormitory and dining hall for students of the University. When Frederick Robie commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright to design a home for him and his growing family in 1908, neither man knew that the home’s iconic design would become the celebrated jewel that it is today. Frank Lloyd Wright (1867 – 1959) was a pioneering American architect, designer, writer, and educator. He left an indelible mark on the world of architecture with his innovative designs, creating over 1,000 structures throughout his illustrious 70-year career. Wright’s philosophy of “organic architecture” emphasized the importance of designing in harmony with humanity and the environment. He was a key figure in the 20th-century architectural movements, and his works continue to inspire architects around the world to this day.

The layout of Robie House is a big departure from more traditional homes of the era, beginning with the front door—if you can find it! The main entrance is tucked away on the short side of the building and hidden under an overhanging second story. Without a grand front door, even finding your way inside the building is an act of discovery—just as Frank Lloyd Wright intended. The main living area is a long and free-flowing space, supported by reinforced concrete girders.

Members may visit a museum site without a reservation the day they wish to tour, however, members are not guaranteed tour tickets, as tours may be sold out. If tickets are available, you will be placed on the next available tour. Directly south across 58th Street from Robie House is the Charles M. Harper Center of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Designed by the Uruguayan-born architect Rafael Viñoly and completed in 2004, the building both respects the scale of the Robie House and contains elements that echo Wright's contributions to the vocabulary of modern architecture. The case study house program was an experimental program set up by John Entenza through Arts and Architecture Magazine, that facilitated the design, construction and publishing of modern single-family homes.

To the east of the site and across a municipal service alley, a French Provincial style house for Nobel prize winning physicist Albert A. Michelson was built around 1923. The lots to the south were vacant and afforded uninterrupted views to the Midway Plaisance parkland, one of the sites of the World's Columbian Exposition. Although the Seminary's plans were subsequently postponed, the crisis was averted more by the onset of World War II than by acquiescence of the property's owner. Barnard Co. of Chicago, began construction on April 15, 1909.[11] Wright did not supervise the construction of the house except in the earliest stages. He closed his Oak Park studio in the fall of 1909 and left for Europe to undertake the work that led to the publication of the Wasmuth Portfolio. Santa Maria del Fiore, also known as the Duomo of Florence, is an iconic architectural landmark in the Tuscan capital.

A Brief History of The Robie House by Frank Lloyd Wright

It is a stunning masterpiece of architecture and stands as one of the most recognizable buildings in Europe. The great dome that covers the structure was designed by Filippo Brunelleschi and completed in 1436 – making it one of the oldest domes still standing today. The primary bedroom has a built-in fireplace and an on-suit bathroom, a luxury that was relatively uncommon for the time. Wright preferred something other than attic or basement spaces in his architecture as he thought they were wasted spaces. For this reason, you will typically see them eliminated in his projects. The primary entry to the home was is on Woodlawn Avenue, the short side of the site.

Frederick C. Robie House

The combination of so much glass and lack of internal structural columns resulted in an airy space that appeared larger than it is, accenting the open plan Wright favored. The chimney mass is constructed of the same brick and limestone as the exterior. The third floor overlaps the major and minor vessels in the center of the building. Two additional bedrooms and a full bathroom are located on the north side of this floor. Dresser drawers are built into the walls of the bedrooms underneath the windows, and project into the eave spaces. A massive fireplace divides the living and dining rooms and connects all three floors, as does a central stairway.

Archiving 100 Years of History

In addition to the windows, Wright also designed the lighting, rugs, furniture and textiles in the house. The entrance hall, the kitchen, the guest bedroom, bathrooms and staircases are placed in the northeastern side of the house. The house is divided into two main volumes with the chimney rising at the centre of the house.

It was one of the first homes that embodied an architectural style unique to America. Before the Robie House and other Wright Prairie Homes, architecture in America typically mimicked a foreign architectural aesthetic such as Georgian, Victorian, Tudor, or Queen Anne. Wright and his contemporaries attempted to create quintessentially unique American architecture. The Robie House would become one of the purest expressions of the Prairie Style. The last and best of the houses in Wright’s prairie era, the Robie House, seems designed for a plain, rather than the narrow corner lot where it is located in Hyde Park, a suburb of Chicago.

The Frederick C. Robie House is a renowned architectural masterpiece and a U.S. National Historic Landmark located on the campus of the University of Chicago, Illinois. Designed by the renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the building was constructed between 1909 and 1910 as a single-family home. It is widely considered to be one of the finest examples of the Prairie School architectural style, a movement that is recognized as the first architectural style considered genuinely American.

It was a corner lot, rectangular in shape, about three times as long as it was wide. Robie would set a total budget of $35,000 for the entire project, including the cost of the land, house, and interior furnishings. The Robie house is important because it represents a shift in American architecture and culture.

The Frank Lloyd Wright Trust is committed to ensuring access to education program participants of diverse abilities and needs. Please discuss your needs when you register for a program or email  to make arrangements. Robie was an executive at a bicycle company that was a leader in advancing technology to improve manufacturing efficiency. Robie saw the economy and culture of America developing and wanted his home to align with these advancements. The use of wood strips arranged perpendicularly to the direction of the room and rhythmically placed lights reduce the feeling of a long narrow space.

American Bungalow

The ground floor of the house features an entrance hall, two private rooms for the family, including a playroom for the Robie children, and a three-car garage, an innovation that highlights the growing importance of the automobile. The expansive main living area is raised above ground level, providing light, space, and privacy for the family. The kitchen and servants quarters are also on this main level, while the family bedrooms are located on the smaller third floor. The Robie House features a partially hidden main entrance on the northwest side, creating a sense of privacy and protection for the residents. The entrance hall is intentionally low-ceilinged and dark, but the stairs to the second floor provide a sense of anticipation as the visitor moves upward. Once upstairs, the light-filled living and dining rooms create a sharp contrast to the dark entrance hall, making them feel even more special.

The Frank Lloyd Wright Trust has completed a comprehensive restoration of the building, revealing Wright's extraordinary 1910 vision. Tour the homes and enjoy an informative, fun and idea-filled day, described as "the pinnacle of housewalks." Frank Lloyd Wright’s connection to Arizona, the location of his personal winter home Taliesin West, runs deep, with his architectural influence seen all over the Valley. Here, PhD student David R. Richardson gives a brief overview of several of Wright’s most notable projects in the Grand Canyon state.

The open plan design was revolutionary for the time, and created a modern, flexible living space for the Robie family, consisting of a dining area and a living area. Art glass doors and windows line the rooms of the Robie House, flooding the interiors with natural light. The windows feature geometric patterns that suggest plant forms, while also incorporating geometric elements found in the plan of the house. Patterns inspired by nature and geometry are also incorporated into the house in the rugs and light fixtures that Wright designed specifically for the building.

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera Gallery

The full version of the software now costs just $299 (sans control panels), even as Blackmagic has built it out with editing and compositing capabilities. And DaVinci Resolve Studio is now included with the BMPCC 4K at no additional charge. The 5-inch touchscreen has a great viewing angle, and that’s a good thing because the monitor does not move. Because the screen is larger, no movement isn’t as bad as it could be, but it’s still lame when you want to shoot low or high angles or in situations where there is loads of glare on the screen.

Post Production Friendly File Formats!

During my time on the show floor, I was surrounded by brilliant minds pushing the boundaries of content creation–from Hollywood studios to passionate home creators dreaming of becoming the next industry giants. BM cameras are full of caveats and I speak as an URSA owner that shot two solid movies on them. I love the Panasonic cameras for what they do, and I've been a user since 2009 with the GH1, but this is another class of camera. For some jobs, it's hard to beat the Panasonics, but sometimes, a box camera is simply much more practical. I like how the announcement says the product will likely have much worse shutter performance than a sony product. The Pyxis includes a series of mounting points and comes in a choice of three lens mounts, now including the Leica L mount.

Sony announces Custom Grid Line license for Alpha cameras

The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K works with industry standard 17 and 33 point 3D LUT files, or you can work with the built in LUTs such as Extended Video, Film to Video, Film to Rec.2020 and more. The Pocket Cinema Camera works with industry standard 17 and 33 point 3D LUT files, or you can work with the built in LUTs such as Extended Video, Film to Video, Film to Rec.2020 and more. Keeping the image sensor and internal components cool is incredibly important because it directly affects image quality. Cooler sensors can run at higher frame rates and capture cleaner images with less noise than a hot sensor. That’s why Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera is designed with a patented two-way thermal management system that features liquid cooling.

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera

And it's a cine camera, you use focus as a story telling mechanism. If you want great autofocus you're probably better off with a Sony prosumer cam... No, It’s for those people with access to MILLIONS of EF mount lens already cheaply available. The ones who don’t feel a need to buy into a new system right now.Maybe their next model will come in a mount that works for you. Millions of people with lenses that can't be used, or unlikely to buy lenses for a dead mount system.

Record Direct to External USB‑C Flash Media Disks

Supports recording optional portrait mode metadata for all resolutions in Blackmagic RAW and H.264 Proxies. Blackmagic has finally moved this system to a more versatile mirrorless mount with the adoption of the L-Mount on the 6K FF. This means you can adapt all the DSLR and cinema glass you want while also using native L-Mount glass. Also, the full-frame sensor has a built-in optical low-pass filter which the Pocket 6K Pro does not. On the other hand, the 6K Pro has built-in ND filters while the full-frame 6K does not.

The Color Of Light

VFX artists are in for a treat too, with a multi-poly rotoscoping tool, expanded USD tools, and a treasure trove of other editing and effects goodies. DaVinci Resolve 19 is a game-changer, and it's clear Blackmagic Design is staying put at the forefront of content creation. You could add a Blackmagic or even Atomos recorder and have a much more usable interface for that kind of thing.

Shoot Incredible High Dynamic Range (HDR) Images

Definitely not handheld and doing that will result in all kinds of artefacts. The first BMPCC was actually pocketable (sans lens) but as the next generations grew, the name just stuck. LOL there only one I have heard of before was Pocket Battleship.

With that said, there are things the BMD system does that are better than others, but you must also remember, BMD cameras are not hybrids. They shoot video, an although some BMD cams can pseudo take stills, but with no mechanical shutter, they do this subpar at best. Venus Optic (Laowa) was kind enough to send us a copy of their new zoom lens.

It’s a nice safety net, though not one you want to test if you can avoid it. Like the original Pocket 6K, the BMPCC 6K Pro uses an active EF lens mount and features a Super35 CMOS sensor. It shoots 6K raw at all standard frame rates up to 60 frames per second; 4K raw up to 30 fps; and HD or 4K, ProRes 422 (HQ, LT, or Proxy) up to 60 fps. All those formats and frame rates provide a lot of flexibility, though most of my own project specs ask for either 6K raw or 4K ProRes 422HQ at 23.98 fps. Like all recent versions of the Pocket Camera including the 4K version, the dual-native ISO is good for low-light and 13 stops of dynamic range are ideal for HDR images.

12bit dng RAW is superior to BRAW and ProResRAW - the price you pay is the large file sizes. BRAW and ProResRAW were concocted to get around the patents about compressing true RAW video, so you get smaller file sizes with mystery processing of RAW in camera or recorder. The LCD on the fp is superior to that on the BMPCC4K or6K - it is actually visible in bright light. The fp has much better battery life and is much, much smaller.

In addition to shooting video, the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K can also capture high resolution stills. Simply press the dedicated stills button to record 24.6 megapixel images. Still images are saved as Blackmagic RAW, so you get a very high image quality, which is perfect for making high resolution professional prints or for later editing in DaVinci Resolve. Digital film cameras shoot logarithmic colorspace to preserve the dynamic range, which is great for later post production, however when these files are viewed on a monitor they can look flat and washed out. 3D LUTs solve this problem because they allow you to apply a "look" to the monitor so you get an idea of how the finished images will look when editing. LUTs can be applied temporarily for monitoring only, or they can be recorded into the Blackmagic RAW files for use in post production.

The image quality of the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K is equal to or better than the other cameras in its price range. In fact, you won’t find RAW in any other camera even close to $1,300. With that said, we wanted to test out the camera’s higher frame rates to see if the image quality suffered. While the sensor is cropped even more when shooting 120 fps in HD, it’s very sharp and the image quality is fantastic. Because of its sweet $2,495 price tag, this is also an excellent camera for anyone looking to graduate to a professional cinema camera from something like a DSLR or an all-in-one camcorder. That said, I wouldn’t suggest the Blackmagic Pocket 6K Pro for absolute beginners; they might find themselves frustrated by its lack of auto, well, anything.

Further separating the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K from would-be competitors is that Blackmagic Design isn’t just a camera company. In fact, up until about six years ago, it wasn’t even a camera company. Before then, it was best known for its DaVinci Resolve color grading software — originally sold as a $20,000 suite complete with bespoke hardware interface.

Rather than bombard the user with every physical button they could possibly need, the 6K Pro keeps things minimal. For almost everyone else, the L mount is a lifesaver. In addition to the wide array of lenses available for L-mounts specifically, there’s a huge market of lenses that are compatible via adapters, including most lenses you might already have. If you’re considering upgrading to a full-frame cinema camera, you’ll have a hard time finding more lens options than on this one. For example, Canon’s popular EF mount—and the mount used on previous Blackmagic cameras—had a flange focal distance of 44 mm.

Our conversation centered around the exciting new features in Maxon One and the company's commitment to empowering creators of all levels. The Sony cameras have autofocus with the right lenses. Does this have even a rudimentary autofocus system?

Theme River Cruises: Christmas Markets

river cruise christmas markets

The seven-night cruise sails between Budapest and Giurgiu along the Danube River. There are also Festive Time on the Romantic Rhine itineraries that don't include the land-based post-cruise days if you want a shorter trip. Fares include shore excursions in every port; free Wi-Fi; all meals; beer, wine and soft drinks with lunch and dinner; port taxes and fees; and visits to UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In select ports, passengers can sign up for optional excursions that are an added cost. These could be worth the upcharge, depending on the type of experience you want to have. The next two days make Strasbourg, France the home port from which you can choose to visit Europa Park in Rust, Germany, or head to Colmar, France, which is famous for its Christmas Markets and Cheese Museum.

Why are River Cruises So Expensive? (Or are They the Best Cruise Value Out There?)

This is the perfect spot to raise a glass and toast Christmas as it is the "capital" of the Champagne wine-growing region and home to one of France's largest Christmas markets. You'll sail on one of Viking's state-of-the-art Longships which moor in the heart of towns so you're close to all the sights. Back onboard, the ships are beautifully decorated and the daily program will feature special events such as Christmas music performances, tree trimming and cookery demonstrations.

Drinking at Christmas markets around Europe normally means getting a hot glass of glühwein, which is mulled wine made with red wine, spices and fruit. The drink is normally served in cute mugs that you can keep as a fun and cheap souvenir. If you don't want to keep your mug, you can return it and get back a euro or two. On my Viking cruise, we were told that some markets are starting to sell mass-produced goods from China.

Christmas & New Year River Cruises

The seven-night cruise visits Belgium and the Netherlands, with port days in iconic cities like Ghent, Bruges and Antwerp. In Rüdesheim, you can choose to take part in a coffee and hot chocolate tasting, marvel at one of the largest mechanical music box collections in the world, enjoy a wine tasting or explore the city on your own. The evening is spent sailing through the Rhine Gorge as you pass 30 castles along the shore. Included with the cost of the cruise are all of your meals and most drinks, free Wi-Fi, all onboard activities and port fees.

Packing for a river cruise in the middle of winter was the most challenging part of the trip for me. Not only did I have to buy winter clothes since I live in Florida, but I needed to make sure I brought enough layers to keep me warm. Berlin hosts more than 60 festive markets and the biggest is in central Potsdamer Platz where there's an open-air skating rink.

Christmas Markets River Cruises: All You Need to Know

Step back in time at a Bavarian castle at Regensburg’s Romantic Christmas Market. Some craftsmen sell toys, such as dolls and marionettes, while others peddle their pottery and paintings at the Lucreziamarkt. While in Vienna, you’ll find a Christmas market seemingly around every corner. Yes, please keep me updated with the latest special offers, travel inspiration, product updates, and event invites. AmaWaterways' Gems of Southeast Europe departs on multiple dates between late November and late December in 2024 (2025 dates run mid-November to mid-December). In Vienna, Austria, the whole city comes alive with lights and a festive spirit.

Discover the magic of a Christmas markets cruise, and celebrate Yuletide as the Germans, Austrians, and Hungarians do. Award-winning European river cruises include everything you need for an exceptional experience. It's most important to choose a cruise based on which destinations you wish to visit and which travel dates and itinerary lengths work with your schedule. If your cruise starts in Amsterdam, you don't have to be on the ship until 4 p.m. So use the morning to walk around town or get tickets to tour the Anne Frank House.

Treasures Of The Main & Rhine

It's also a good idea to know the currency of each destination you're going to. For example, in Hungary, euros are not accepted anywhere, so I exchanged dollars for Hungarian forints to use at the Christmas market. For example, in Vienna, I spotted a gold beaded ornament that I loved, and I bought it for about 10 euros (about $10.86). I never saw any other beaded ornaments at the Christmas markets before or after Vienna, so I was glad I purchased it when I saw it. My favorite Christmas market was the one at City Hall in Vienna, which happens to be one of the most popular in Europe. It had everything from ice skating and photo-worthy backdrops to prepackaged sweets and plenty of Christmas decorations to try to fit into my already full suitcase.

With over 150 vendor stalls, Vienna’s Christkindlmarkt takes place in front of its 19th-century town hall. Join both locals and visitors as they prepare for the holidays during this late-season cruise along the Danube. Sail aboard a ship designed for viewing the enchanting riverside vistas, through panoramic windows, from the sun deck, or from the comfort of your private, river-view cabin. Onboard meals, prepared by European chefs, include a choice of regional specialties and traditional favorites.

But in terms of Christmas Market hours, since they don't open early in the morning anyway, this worked for us. If there's an old town in any given city, 10 out of 10 times, there are Christmas Markets there. Often, there is demand for more locations and more vendors in a city, like in big cities, including Vienna, Budapest, Frankfurt, or Munich. If this is the case, there are typically additional vendors and stalls lined up along pedestrian streets near the old city center.

Ships take travelers from port to port to experience the incredible Christmas markets where stalls are adorned with glittering lights, the smells of sausages and baked goods fill the air, and the sounds of carols can be heard. Our travel advisors will ensure that you receive every AmaWaterways river cruise offer that you qualify for, including complimentary shore excursions and beverages. Our travel advisors can also help you book hotel stays at ports on either side of your voyage. This website will provide you with information on the financial protection that applies in the case of each holiday and travel service offered before you make your booking. At the time of booking, our Cruise Concierge will also confirm the financial protection applicable to your specific holiday.

It also stops in Passau, where a walking tour brings you to St. Stephen’s Square and its baroque cathedral in the heart of Old Town. At Passau Christkindlmarkt, you can find cute little Bavarian-style model houses, cookie cutters, and olive wood products from Assisi. Solo travelers should know that these cabins don't have a balcony and are the smallest on the riverboat at 150 square feet, but you likely won't be spending much time in your room on this sailing. The cruise fare includes all gratuities, private shore excursions, meals, unlimited drinks including premium spirits, and basic Wi-Fi, plus airport and train transfers.
